Upside Down Chocolate Apple Cake

Topping
1/4 cup melted butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp lemon juice
2 cups apple, pared and sliced
Pour butter in 9 x 9 in. cake pan; add brown sugar and lemon juice.
Top with apples.
Batter
1 1/2 cup flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1/3 cup butter
1 egg, whisked
3/4 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Sift dry ingredients; coarsely cut butter into mixture.
Mix egg, milk and vanilla; gradually incorporate dry ingredients.
Pour batter onto apples.
Bake 35 to 40 minutes.
Let cool 5 minutes and flip onto cake platter.
Serve with whipped cream.
